The judges had their work cut out this year, with 231 entries into the Photo competition, but the winner was finally decided to be Lynda Smith from North Anston near Sheffield.
Lynda’s photo of Pippa Funnell and Billy the Biz at the Equi-Trek Round House combination really impressed all three judges (Nick Lane Fox, Nick Pritchard and Laura Jennings), and was the only photo to be chosen by all three when they independently chose their favourite ten. Having said that, there were another two photos that really impressed, and the final choice was only made once the three photos had been ‘mocked up’ into a programme cover! Both Anna Franklin’s photo of Kitty King, and Hannah Cole’s photo of Alex Hua Tian were great examples of what we were looking for, and showed the grit and determination of horse and rider.
Lynda, an ‘enthusiastic amateur photographer’, was absolutely delighted that she had won this competition – the first that she has ever entered, let alone won! 2016 was the third time that she, her partner, and her dogs have visited Bramham, and although she enjoys watching dressage, she finds the best photographic opportunities are on cross country day, and so this is the day they choose to come. It wasn’t until Lynda had returned home that she read the Official Event Programme thoroughly and read about the Photo Competition. She said she thought ‘I’ve got some cracking photos here – I may as well send some in’ – and we’re jolly glad that she did! Bramham is not the only event that Lynda visits – Chatsworth and Burghley were also on her list this year.
Lynda’s photo will feature on the front of the 2017 Equi-Trek Bramham International Horse Trials, and she also wins two Season Member’s tickets for next year’s Event.
